Heritage Scrapbooking with CTMH

I recently entered this scrapbook layout into an art contest for the category Heritage Scrapbooking.
I don't really own any vintage photographs of family members.  It took me awhile to figure out what to do for the contest.  It was a fantastic opportunity to get creative!  I was able to locate yearbook photographs of my Grandmother and my Mother from their senior years in high school online.
It has always been a point of interest in our family that my Grandmother graduated in the first ever graduating class at Peninsula High School back in 1948.  In 1972 my Mother graduated in the 25th graduating class from the same school.  I then graduated during the 50 year anniversary of the school opening.

I love that I was pushed to find a creative way to fit the heritage category, but more than that, I love that I was able to pick a beloved story of our family history and lay it down on the page.  I think it is a good reminder for everyone that scrapbooking isn't necessarily about getting 5000 pictures off of your computer and into books.  It's about cherry picking the photos that tell the stories that you love the most.  If you are ever overwhelmed about how behind you are on your scrapping, just take a breath.  Don't look at it like a mass of pictures that you need to catch up on.  Just take it one project and one story at a time.

This layout uses a lot of cool products and some neat photo editing techniques.  The Adventure Fundamentals paper pack #Z3253 is bright and vibrant and had the perfect combination to represent the school's colors - green (Emerald), white (White Daisy), and gold (Lemon).  I roughed up all of the edges to break up the layers and add texture.  The White Glitter Paper Z3237 added the perfect pop of shimmer.  I am particularly fond of the Emerald paper with the white arrows.  It brings to mind a high school football field.
I used PicMonkey to edit my photos.  My senior picture was in color and I changed it to black and white.  I also edited the pictures of the school rings, the letter, and the logo so that they were black and white with only select items in color.  I thought this was a great way to represent the idea of the transition from present to past.  PicMonkey makes it really easy and by using Flip Flaps Z3230 and Z3231, I was able to create a "reveal" effect.
Here's an online demonstration of just how easy this Selective Coloring technique is.
I also used my new favorite tool, the Gold Shimmer Brush Z3316, to dress up some of the stamping.
I hope you will try Heritage Scrapping to tell your family history and favorite stories.  If you aren't sure how to get started or if you'd love to get your hands on any of the products used in this layout, please contact me!  I'd love to help you tell your stories and preserve your memories.

And please wish me luck in the contest!

10 CTMH Gifts Under $30

One thing I think people forget about Direct Sales companies is that when you purchase from them, you get your own Personal Shopper.  That's me!  I'm your very own Close To My Heart personal shopper.  Maybe you don't have time to do the shopping you want to do, or maybe you just don't like shopping.  I can help with that!  I have lots of ideas for you and 95% of my ideas are good ones.

I've got some great ideas for gifts under $30 while supplies last. These ideas could be for the crafty person in your life, but many don't necessarily have anything to do with being crafty.  Or maybe you just want to gift yourself something.  Check it out:

1.) An Accessory Roll-Up can be used for crafty bits, but it can also be used as a travel bag for jewelry and hair accessories.  $18.95
2.) This Tee is extremely comfy (I bought myself 2 of them), it has a really cute design, AND it helps a good cause - Operation Smile.  $25.00
3.)  Everybody uses Shoulder Totes.  If you are going to use one, why not get a fashionable one?  This one comes with a sweet little charm on it and it's made of nice, sturdy material.  $26.95
4.) There are some great clearance deals going on right now.  Pick up an album, some photo pockets, and Picture My Life cards.  Whoever gets this gift can put together an awesome looking album in mere minutes.  $16.43 if you get only one style of photo pockets.  $23.38 if you get both styles for mixing and matching.
5.)  How about a planner?  Yes I know it's February.  But this planner is ALSO a Coloring Book!  And we all know adult coloring is the big fad right now.  (I loooove mine.)  $15.95
6.)  Do you know somebody who wants to get into crafting, but doesn't know where to start?  How about a pre-cut kit.  This Forever & Always Kit makes a 2 page layout to put in a scrapbook or hang in 12x12 frames on display.  It takes less than 20 minutes to put together.  $14.95
7.) Maybe you need a gift for somebody who is crafty, but already has all the supplies they need.  They can still use inspiration! (Can't we all?) How about a book on some ideas for cards or scrapbook layouts?  $14.95
8.) Some people are taking that adult coloring fad to the next level and trying out Watercolor Painting.  These paints are really high quality.  $20.90
9.) Maybe you know somebody who leaves notes everywhere.  They would probably love a magnetic chalkboard to write their notes on or stick notes up with magnets.  They can even decorate it to make it unique with some sticker embellishments.  $15.75
10.)  We all know that one person who just wants to glitterfy everything.  (Who am I kidding?  It's me!)  Here is the ultimate glitter essentials gift idea.  Glitter sticker embellishments, sparkles, and a shimmer brush.  I don't think there is anything that can't be glittered with these three things.  $20.75
If you are ever stuck for gift ideas, just contact me.  I'm sure I can come up with some crazy idea for you!  Or peek through my Clearance section and see what kinds of things you can come up with on your own.  Just be sure to allow about a week for shipping.

CTMH Sugar Rush - Great for Gift Boxes

I can't say it enough.  I LOVE SUGAR RUSH!  It is just delicious. The paper comes in colors that are perfect for this time of year - not quite winter colors and not quite spring colors; perfectly in between.

I tried to film a tutorial for you guys today on a couple of gift boxes and a Pop & Twist card, but there was a problem with my video camera and the film didn't make it.  Pictures and a blog post will have to do.

Valentine's Day is coming up and Sugar Rush is perfect for making gift boxes to hold sweets for your Sweet.  I was at the drug store today and found these Peeps Vanilla Creme Hearts and I couldn't resist picking them up for hubby.

I used some of the Sugar Rush papers, cardstock, and complements that were left over after putting together my Project Kit.

They are really simple and really sweet.  Hubby might only be getting cheap drugstore candy for Valentine's Day, but the extra effort I put into making the packaging dresses it up and makes it look like so much more!  It's these little touches that let your loved ones know just how special you think they are.

The Pop & Twist card is my favorite part though.  I will definitely have to record a tutorial of how to do these in the future.  They are very popular right now and not all that difficult.

I don't really have much left in my Sugar Rush paper pack.  If you're like me, you love to buy the latest and greatest papers and then you have a hard time using them because they're so pretty and you just want to look at them.  But, I must say, it is a far better feeling when you have utilized the papers in that pack to make beautiful projects.  There is such a feeling of accomplishment when you realize you have used almost every bit of your materials.

I hope you guys are enjoying all of the ideas I'm giving you for using up your papers.  I'll be moving on the next pack, Hello Lovely, pretty soon.  But in the meantime, I would love to see what Sugar Rush projects you have been working on.  Send me pictures on social media or by email.

If you would like to get these sweet products at a discount, I would love to talk to you about joining my team, Treasured Friends.
